HOW DO WE SEE

what’s going on?

N O T E V E N W R O N G*

Most of the organizational approaches and tools are obsolete - they were conceived based on the idea of an organization as a machine, so they work well for what is complicated but not for the complex reality of today. Therefore, what we are currently seeing in organizations is a giant focus on execution and efficiency, a strong capacity for measurement and quantification, scale and homogeneity. But also, fragmentation, reductionism, bureaucracy, polarization, incapacity to deal with paradoxes, lack of depth, imagination, curiosity, and trust. So, how to change this? What if we thought of an organization as a living adaptive system?

*A famous expression from theoretical physicist Wolfgang Pauli when he saw an approach, he felt didn’t make sense

WHAT DO WE DO?

an alternative path…

“Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

George Bernard Shaw

For us, the most fundamental shift is a shift in perspective, the shift of mind.

We work with leadership teams from a variety of industries and sizes to support the evolution and emergence of a new mindset and culture in their organizations.

Our main intention is to improve the way you and your team think and act:

  • Helping people to see the interconnectedness of everything;

  • Improving the quality of their bond and conversation, dialogue and trust;

  • Becoming more prepared to innovate and reinvent themselves and their organizations;

  • Increasing their understanding about complexity so they achieve simplicity;

We also believe that there is nothing to be fixed, people are not broken, they are genuinely good and no-one is superior or inferior to anyone.  But, there are superior and inferior ideas by which people get possessed - so we should constructively and gently confront and improve those ideas.

Fundamentally, our approach represents an attempt to move from a fragmentary/reductionist worldview towards a more participatory consciousness and can be used in situations such as organizational purpose and identity, culture, M&As, new organizational design and strategic planning to name a few. We believe that when individuals understand how their particular actions impact the greater system and come together to create a difference, anything is possible!

It sounds good, but how do we do it?

HOW DO

we do it?

We work basically on four types of projects:

  1. Soul-searching – Identity projects aimed at rescuing, revealing, or updating the essence and purpose of the company. Why and for what are we really busy doing what we do?

  2. Shared Meaning – Cultural projects aimed at the collective sharing of meanings and the synchronization of the movement to adapt to contextual challenges: narratives for new growth cycles, the co-creation of cultural values, and the process of spreading these meanings throughout the organization, generating synchronized movement. What is our understanding of the context, and how do we collectively respond in the best way, creating capacity for constant adaptation?

  3. Imagine-in-Action – Disruptive innovation projects aimed at reflecting and imagining future hypotheses that can provide a direction and mobilize the system, in addition to structuring the path to get there. This applies to businesses, organizations, or products. Where do we want to go? And how will we get there?

  4. Field Creation – Projects with leadership aimed at creating bonds, cohesion, dialogue capacity, and synchrony among organizational leaders, based on a new worldview, grounded in the logic of living systems. How do we interact to lead our system? What conditions do we need to create for the expected results to emerge?

The roots of our approach are not new, in fact they are very old, about 2,500 years old. But its the most effective method we know so far - the Socratic Method. It begins with a provocation that challenges the existing ways of thinking and opens space for a reflection that, when successful, promotes learning.

Although the type of conceptual and experiential provocation we make is always simple, gentle and respectful, its conceptual elements come from very deep sources, such as:

  • David Bohm’s implicate order;

  • Whitehead process philosophy;

  • Complexity and Chaos Theory;

  • Evolutionary Biology;

  • Philosophy of Science;

  • Otto Scharmer´s Theory U;

  • Milton Erickson´s human development;

  • Nora Bateson´s Warm Data Lab

  • John P Milton´s Way of Nature

  • Non-dual spiritual approaches such as Advaita-Vedanta, Dzoghchen, Taoism just to name a few…
